Christmas in Australia

It's summer time in Australia at Christmas so it is always lovely and sunny. The temperature can go up to 35°C! People celebrate Christmas in shorts and T-shirts, and go to the beach. And kids are happy because school doesn't start again until the end of January.

The first Christmas in Australia was on 25 December 1788. Australia was a British colony, and the majority of its first White inhabitants were British convicts. For Chrismas dinner they had rations of bread and water ! But the country's officials were luckier. They had a typical English Christmas dinner of roast turkey, vegetables and Chrismas pudding. During the Australian gold rush, the pudding had a gold nugget. Today it has a small charm or coin.
