Judo is a very good sport. Ophélie has practised judo for about 4 years and Justine for about 8 years. Ophélie had got a green belt but now she has got a blue belt and Justine had got a blue belt and now she has got a brown belt.
1) The history of judo:
Judo was invented by Jigoro Kano in 1882 in Japan. Jigoro Kano is the master of judo. He was born in 1860 and he died in 1938. In every dojo (it is the room where we practice judo) there is a photo of Jigoro Kano because he is an example for every judoka.
2) The rules of judo:
In judo there are a lot of belts : white-white and yellow-yellow-yellow and orange-orange-orange and green-green-blue-brown-black ( with a lot of Dan)-white and red–red and big white.
To have another belt you must take an exam. It’s not very difficult but it’s very stressing. At the exam there is a teacher who questions you. (the name of the techniques, etc ….).
3) The moral code of judo
- Friendship
- Respect
- Self control
- Modesty
- Sincerity
- Courtesy
- Honour
- Courage
4) The competitions:
In a year there are a lot of competitions. The competitions are very stressing but when you have started it is very good.
A fight lasts 3 minutes. The person who has won more points is the winner. There are 4 sorts of points : koka, yuko, wasa-ari, ippon. And there are 4 sanctions : shido, chui, keikoku, hansoku-make.
