The instruments and me

by Emmanuelle

So, in my project, I’ve spoken about different categories of instruments, the orchestra and the composers.

In classical Music, there are 4 families of instruments: wood, strings, drums and brass. It isn’t because you play a classical instrument that you can’t do other styles of music. For example with a concert Flute, you can play Brasilian music, Folk Music, etc...

Now I’m going to present different instrument families and one instrument of each. The first family is strings: In the strings there are 4 instruments which are played with a bow: the violin, the alto, the cello and the bass-cello. In this family, there are the guitar, the piano, the harpsichord, etc... The classical guitar which has got 5 strings is especially for the beginners. It’s got no improvement and it costs 54 euros minimum. The acoustic guitar was invented by Gibsen and Martin. It’s good for blues, rock.. You can turn on the guitar to have more sound. It costs 107 euros minimum. The electric guitar was born in XXth century. You can connect it to a booster and you can have different sounds. It costs 125 euros minimum. To finish, the bass guitar. It was born in the 50s. It has got only 4 strings and it costs 153 euros minimum. You can connect it to a booster too.

Now the wood instruments: you can find in this family the flute, the clarinet, the oboe and the bassoon. Instruments are played by the sound especially the twangs. They have got touches and keys to make the notes.

I play the Flute: it’s easy at the beginning but then the fingering becomes really hard. My flute has cost approximately 1050 euros and it was second-hand. A brand-new flute costs approximately 1500 euros but it can cost much more ( 7000 euros with silver ).

There are a lot of brass instruments: the trumpet, the trombone, the saxophone, etc... It’s really hard to blow in them but for the players it’s easy.

In the drums, there are the Tam-Tam, the maracas, etc... It’s good to accompany for a concert or other.

In my life, I play the Concert Flute. I began it 4 years ago but I’ve jumped 3years so it’s as if I was in 7th year. I like the flute because it doesn’t accompany other instruments. It’s usually the soloist. My teacher is very friendly and she plays the flute very well. Next year, I will take music in my new school because it’s easy for me! I will continue the conservatory to avoid losing my learning. I often do concerts with a piano or string instruments. I like it very much!

I hope you have learnt a lot in this project! Good Bye
